New leadership shows resolve to realize "Chinese dream"

China's new top leadership has showcased its resolve and confidence in realizing the nation's rejuvenation -- the greatest dream in the country's modern history.

Xi Jinping, the newly elected general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the other six members of the seven-seat Political Bureau Standing Committee, visited "The Road Toward Renewal" exhibition on Thursday.

As one of the permanent fixtures in the National Museum of China, lying to the east of Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing, the exhibition illustrates the ups and downs of China on the road of national revival since 1840.

China fell into an abyss of semi-imperial and semi-feudal society after the First Opium War (1840-1842). The 170-plus years of struggle by several generations of the Chinese showed the correct way to national rejuvenation is the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

This path decided the nation's destiny.

The CPC has rallied and led the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in turning the poor and backward old China into an increasingly prosperous and powerful new one, now opening up bright prospects for the great renewal of the Chinese nation.

Thursday's visit to the exhibition showed the new top leadership is more aware of the historic responsibility of the Party in taking up the relay baton passed onto them by history and in making continued efforts to achieve the great renewal of China.

The theme of the exhibition is in line with the missions and goals of completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and deepening the policy of reform and opening up, which were set at the just-concluded CPC national congress.

With confidence and historic responsibility in mind, Thursday's visit represents a promise by the new helmsmen to both history and the Chinese people.

China has never been so close to realizing the goal of the nation's great renewal and the country is now more confident and capable of realizing the goal than at any period in its history.

At present, as conditions nationally, globally and within the CPC continue to undergo profound change, the Party is faced with unprecedented opportunities for development as well as risks and challenges unknown before.

China is still in the primary stage of socialism and will long remain so. This basic condition of China has not changed; nor has the principal problem in its society -- that is, how the Party can meet the ever-growing material and cultural needs of the people with backward social production; nor has China's international position as the largest developing country in the world.

History has taught a lesson that backwardness leaves one vulnerable to attack and one can only improve him or herself through development.

China is set to build itself into a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious when the New China marks its centennial. With arduous efforts of the Chinese people, the dream of the Chinese nation's great renewal will surely be realized.
