The Chinese government sent humanitarian relief materials to hurricane-hit Cuba on Tuesday.

The plane carrying the relief materials left the Beijing Capital International Airport at around 4:00 p.m. It is expected to arrive in Santiago de Cuba at 3:00 a.m. local time on Nov. 21.

The relief materials weigh a total of 90 tonnes and include 900 tents, 10,000 blankets, 30 sets of water purification equipment, 100 electricity generators and medicines.

Hurricane Sandy landed in eastern Cuba on Oct. 25, lashing the region with heavy rains and strong winds that flooded towns, destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, ruined acres of cropland and claimed 11 lives.

After the disaster, the Chinese government immediately provided financial aid to Cuba to help fight the disaster.
