More world leaders congratulate Xi on election as CPC chief

Congratulations have continued to flow in from around the world to Xi Jinping on his election as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said in his congratulatory message "having had the privilege of knowing you personally, I feel special joy in your elevation to this post."

Asserting that "Pakistan and China enjoy exceptionally close, friendly and fraternal relations," Zardari, who is also the co-chairman of the Pakistan People Party (PPP), said, "I was deeply impressed by your vision on fortifying Pak-China relations in our meeting in June this year."

Myanmar President U Thein Sein, who is also chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, said in his congratulatory message, "I wish to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to your excellency on your election as general secretary and member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China."

"I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the existing traditional friendly relations and solidify the foundation of Myanmar-China cooperative relations under the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership," U Thein Sein said.

In his congratulatory message, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said China had made remarkable achievements since it adopted a reform and opening-up policy 30 years ago and it had now come to a critical moment for a new leap.

Expressing his belief Xi would "exercise excellent leadership" in advancing China's development and prosperity, Li hoped, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries would deepen and move forward their strategic and cooperative partnership while continuing to cooperate closely for peace and co-prosperity in the region.

Sundanese President Omar al-Bashir, who is also head of the National Congress Party, extended his warmest congratulations to Xi on his election.

He said Sudan's political parties, government and people believed the strategic policies adopted at 18th CPC National Congress would strengthen the role of China in the international arena as a strong, prosperous and harmonious country, so as to achieve comprehensive development.

"We believe the new CPC leadership will lead the Chinese people to achieve bigger prosperity and make more contributions to world peace and development," he said.

Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou said in his message the CPC was the great policymaker of its opening-up, which helped China score marked achievements in various areas and become one of the world's economic powers.

Issoufou expressed willingness to make concerted efforts with Xi to further cement the friendship and unity between the two countries and the two peoples.

Ernest Bai Koroma, president of Sierra Leone and leader of the All People's Congress, extended warm congratulations to Xi.

"On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Sierra Leone and on my own personal behalf, I wish you continued happiness, good health and prosperity and to express the hope that the cordial relationship that binds our two countries will be further strengthened," Koroma said.

Jalal Talabani, Iraqi president and leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, said in a message Xi's election demonstrated all CPC members' confidence in him.

Under Xi's leadership, the CPC would adequately implement various historic resolutions adopted at the party congress, he said.

Mongolian Prime Minister Norov Altanhuyag, who is also chairman of the Democratic Party of Mongolia, expressed confidence, under Xi's leadership, China would score greater achievement in its construction cause.

The positive close contacts between the Democratic Party of Mongolia and the CPC would make due contributions to promoting cooperation between the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples, he said.

Chea Sim, president of Cambodia's Senate and leader of the Cambodian People's Party, said Xi's election showed high the confidence and great expectations of the CPC central committee and all Chinese people.

Under the leadership of the CPC with Xi as the general secretary, the Chinese people would make greater achievements in fulfilling the resolutions adopted at the CPC congress, he said.

Congratulating Xi, Crin Antonescu, president of Romania's senate and leader of the National Liberal Party (NLP), said the CPC congress adopted important resolutions, which were of strategic significance to China's future.

He voiced belief relations between the two parties would develop with fresh vigor, making contributions to cooperation between the two countries.

Marian Lupu, chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova, conveyed his warmest congratulations on Xi's election.

"I am convinced that, under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee, guided by you, the whole party will gain great success in realizing the resolutions adopted at the 18th Congress of the Communist Party of China, building China into a powerful nation and bring prosperity and happiness to the Chinese people," he said in a message.

In her message, Solvita Aboltina, Latvia's parliament speaker and chair of the Board of the Unity Party, said China's development "has contributed greatly to the maintenance of peace and stability, to the global economy as well as advances in science and technology."

"Out common and joint efforts will turn into meaningful and useful benefits and will foster the wealth and fortune of our people," she said.

Younoussi Toure, president of the Union for the Republic and Democracy of Mali, said in his message his party and the CPC shared similar views on major international issues and the two countries enjoyed close and friendly relations.

President of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina Julian Dominguez said China had made great achievements in building socialism with Chinese characteristics over the past decades. The Chinese people had complete confidence in Xi's ability to lead the country down that path.

Chairman of Yemen's General People's Congress and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh said China would move towards a new era in Xi's leadership and play a bigger role in international political and economic affairs in the future.

Chairman of Cambodia's Funcinpec Party Keo Puth Rasmey said the CPC would make greater achievements in implementing all the resolutions raised at the 18th National Congress to realize national prosperity and people's well-being.

Kazuo Shii, leader of the Japanese Communist Party (JCP), hoped China could achieve more in promoting the development of various fields and solving global issues.

The JCP was willing to further develop friendly relations and cooperation with the CPC and contribute to promoting the settlement of the problems between the two countries and developing friendly relations between the two countries and peoples, he said.

Leader of the United National Party of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremasinghe said: "China, as the second largest economy in the world, will play an important role internationally with particular emphasis in the Asian region."

Secretary-General of Spain's People's Party Dolores de Cospedal congratulated Xi and wished him greater achievements in the new post.

Chairman of the board of Latvia's Social Democratic Party "Concord" Janis Urbanovics said in his message, "Latvian Social-Democrats strongly believe that the People's Republic of China is on the threshold of a new era of political and social life, when numerous perspectives lie ahead."

"Under the direction of the new great political leader, who is oriented toward success and achievements, your country will further strengthen its well-deserved position in the international society and reach new milestones in economic and social areas," Urbanovics said.

Milo Djukanovic, president of the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro, extended his sincere congratulations to Xi, saying Montenegro paid close attention to every achievement made by China.

The peoples and leaders of the two countries had enjoyed a deep and sincere friendship, Djukanovic said.
