Sales of fake receipts still rampant in Shanghai

More than 100 people were charged with tax-related crimes in the first six months of this year, indicating sales of fake receipts and resale of value-added tax receipts are rampant in Shanghai, Chongming County prosecutors said today.

The prosecutors said they caught 102 suspects in 76 tax-related cases in the first half of this year. More than 3 million yuan (US$479,647) of tax money was defrauded using fake receipts.

A suspect surnamed Lu was caught in April after police received a tipoff that Lu was selling fake taxi receipts to unlicensed cabbies.

Police seized 65 stacks of fake receipts (each stack contains 100 receipts with a face value of 10-yuan) from Lu. The man said he bought each stack at 5 yuan from someone several years ago and sold them to unlicensed cabbies if some passengers demanded for receipts.
