Qingdao DoubleStar are close to signing up Tracy McGrady in a bid to bring the seven-time National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star to China's top-flight league, reports said on Tuesday.

"We've already sent a one-year contract to McGrady through his agent. The deal will go into effect once he signs," Qingdao's general manager Sheng Xishun was quoted by Chinese portal Sina.com as saying.

"We will know the result by the end of tomorrow. We have been in smooth negotiation and there was no big difference between us, so I am confident (of McGrady's confirmation)," he added.

McGrady, 33, averaged 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists in his 15-year in NBA. The 2.03-meter forward most recently signed with the Atlanta Hawks as a free agent last year.

McGrady enjoys high popularity in China as he once played alongside Yao Ming, one of the country's most popular sports figure, during his six seasons in the Houston Rockets.
