Chinese FM meets Russian counterpart on ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation at the UN headquarters Tuesday.

Meeting on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly, Yang said that the current global and regional situation is undergoing complex and profound changes and that relations between China and Russia have enjoyed sustained, sound and steady progress at a very high level.

Yang said China and Russia have actively implemented the consensus reached by their leaders and have achieved continuous progress in bilateral pragmatic cooperation. The two countries have played a constructive role in international and regional affairs, he said.

China is willing to further deepen bilateral cooperation with Russia and constantly enrich the content of the comprehensive China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership, said Yang.

For his part, Lavrov said his country attaches great importance to the Russia-China partnership and is satisfied with the steady development of bilateral relations.

Russia is willing to enhance cooperation with China in various fields, maintain close communication on major international and regional issues and push bilateral relations to a higher level, said Lavrov.
