Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on Tuesday rolled out its first mobile clinic designed to improve emergency care in remote plateau areas, local authorities said.

The clinic consists of eight vehicles that contain medical examination rooms, wards and logistical support units, according to Purbu Zhoima, director of the regional health department.

The facility will enable doctors to carry out clinical examinations, X-ray tests and surgeries, she said, adding that it is also equipped with devices to provide water and generate oxygen and power.

The mobile clinic can function in the event of natural disasters and public health emergencies, even in vast rural areas, she said.

The clinic, financed by the regional government, was developed by the Academy of Military Medical Sciences of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
