Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Jia Qinglin said during his visit to the institution that the founding of the archives is of great significance.

Jia urged the institution to improve its collection, preservation, research and exploitation of historical documents and make itself a window to promote the country's political system and CPPCC system.

The institution should also improve exchanges with the public and foreign counterparts, he said.

When meeting with attendants at a conference on the CPPCC archives work, Jia said more efforts should be made to collect and preserve documents of key historic figures and events about how people from all walks took part in building socialism of Chinese characteristics.

Officials engaged in archives work should work to preserve history and step up research, Jia said.

Over the past five decades, the CPPCC has collected archives of more than 8 billion Chinese characters and published books and publications with about 5 billion characters, according to Jia.
