China's top legislator Wu Bangguo arrived in Fiji Thursday for a four-day visit.

In a written statement issued at the airport, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress said that bilateral ties between China and Fiji have developed smoothly in general since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975.

Furthering ties with Fiji not only benefits the two countries and their people, but also helps to promote the stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region, Wu said.

Wu is scheduled to meet Fiji President Epeli Nailatikau and Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama during the visit.

Fiji is the last stop of Wu's four-nation tour, which has taken him to Iran, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
