Chinese State Councilor Ma Kai on Thursday met with visiting International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General Hamadoun Toure.

Ma said the Chinese government attaches importance to the ITU's role and supports the UN agency's work.

The Chinese side is ready to continue working together with the ITU as well as other countries for the further development of global information communication.

During the meeting, Toure expressed his gratitude for China's support and his hope of boosting cooperation with the Asian country.

The ITU is the United Nations' specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs). The agency allocates global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develops the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies can seamlessly interconnect and strives to improve access to ITCs to underserved communities worldwide.
