Fish die in mercy release

Many catfish died in the lake at Shichahai, Xicheng district, this weekend, thought to be from a "mercy release," said the Beijing Evening News.

Over 50 dead catfish were seen floating on the water on Saturday, part of a 1,000 kilogram-release on Friday, claimed local residents.　

Workers near the river said the fish could not adapt to the new environment.
