Police have seized nine people after busting a fake cigarette operation involving 100 million yuan (15.8 million U.S.dollars) in China's Fujian Province.

The case, supervised by China's Ministry of Public Security, was solved on Tuesday after a two-month investigation across five provinces by Wuping County Public Security Bureau police, in Longyan City.

In June, Wuping officers seized a van with 368 cartons of fake branded cigarettes, including makers Chunghwa and Yuxi. The goods were worth more than three million yuan.

Police followed up information provided by the driver, surnamed Li, who was detained along with another suspect.

The crime ring transported the cigarettes, produced in Fujian, to provinces of Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu for sale.

Police said three of the suspects, including the ringleader surnamed Huang, were arrested. The six others were detained.
