Stephen White, a well-known collector of photographs, has come to the Dali International Photography Exhibition with his private collection, an assemblage of 111 images captured by 86 celebrated photographers from 1843 to 1993.

The collection, named History of Photography, is being exhibited at the E area in the Yin Hai Landscape Exhibition Center. Included in it are various well-known images of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, as well as historical figures such as Winston Churchill and Victor Hugo.

Stephen White is the founder of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers. He is now a member of the Los Angles Photograph Art Commission and is the chairman of the academic council of the Dali International Photography Exhibition.

White said he has collected the photographs he has because he likes them and thinks they are important. The first pieces in his collection were works of John Thomson, one of the first among the practitioners of his art to travel to the Far East.

White, when asked why he brought his collection to Dali, said a friend of his once told him that people in China know little about the history of photography. Seeing that the 4th Dali International Photography Exhibition was taking place now, and knowing that young photographers in China would gather at the event, he thought it would be a good place to present his collection.
