FY-2 satellite provides service for flood season

Currently, China is experiencing the main flood season and is facing severe challenges of flood control and typhoon prevention.

On August 1, CMA issued a notice which demanded to strengthen the transmission, application and popularization of FengYun-2 F satellite's intensive observational data, fully play the role of meteorological satellite so as to provide services for this flood season and other great events.

The notice requires that all levels of meteorological departments should strengthen the transmission, application and popularization of FengYun-2 F satellite's intensive observational data, offer intensive observational data and products and provide services for users timely; intensify the statistical work of transmission effect for ensuring the data products to reach the users timely and accurately; promote the data application work, especially the application of SWAP; make conclusion for the relevant work so as to meet the demand of business.

It is reported that this year's No.9 typhoon "Saola" and No.10 typhoon "Damrey" have formed in northwest Pacific on July 28 and are approaching the sea area in east of Taiwan and north of East China Sea. National Satellite Meteorological Center has started to take FY-2 F satellite intensive observation which can give a satellite image every 6 minutes so as to show the development of typhoons in a more accurate term.
