Beijing's cloud computing aims for top

China's Cloud Valley is looking to the future of cloud computing. The technology distributes computing horsepower across arrays of computers often spread across the internet.

Companies often use such systems for intensive work like desktop virtualization, resource scheduling platforms and massive data analysis. Our reporter He Beibei reports on China's answer to silicon valley.

In a suburb of Beijing you can find cloud valley. Established in 2010, 19 firms are now set up here, employing around 1,000 people.

Chi Nan has worked here for just two years, but that's been long enough to watch the industry start to mature.

Chi Nan says, "The valley started with several companies but has now developed into a whole industrial chain consisting of producers of hardware and software and their clients. It is quite convenient as each company has complementary strengths that can help coordinate resources."

One of Chi Nan's jobs is to explain cloud computing to the visitors and promote the industry. Last year, he received more than 700 visitors.

Chi Nan also says,"At first, very few people knew exactly what cloud computing was, but with the rapid development of this technology in China, many customers are now at the same level as us, so they ask very professional questions. We have to arm ourselves constantly with the latest knowledge in cloud computing."

Tcloud is one of the earliest companies to settle here. Its vice president, Gao Hanzhao, told us that in the PC and Internet age, China is far behind, but that in this particular field, it is almost at the same level as global competitors.

Gao says, "International companies also have plans to set up here in the near future. And other cities across China are joining the rush. But Beijing has some of the most ambitious plans. By 2015 Cloud Valley plans to generate revenues of 200 billion Yuan, and create 50,000 jobs."

The target of the "Cloud Valley" is to bring together more and more high-tech companies. This is the LOGO wall of all the enterprises that have settled here, and the ultimate goal is to fill the entire wall. As we can see, this cloud base is part of efforts to make Beijing the center for China's cloud computing, and eventually the world.
