Premier Wen Jiabao met with visiting Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev at the Great Hall of the People on Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties.

Atambayev is in Beijing to attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

Wen said China supports Kyrgyzstan's efforts to maintain stability and improve its people's livelihoods, adding that China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to boost bilateral ties on the basis of common development.

Wen said both sides should boost cooperation regarding the development of railways and energy, increase personnel exchanges and promote the development of economic and trade relations.

China will provide support for Kyrgyzstan when it assumes the rotating presidency of the SCO, Wen said.

Atambayev said he appreciates China's support for his country's stability and development, adding that both countries have made progress in promoting the economic and social development of Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan is ready to deepen cooperation with China in the areas of economics, trade, transportation, energy, agriculture and security, as well as push forward bilateral ties, Atambayev said.

Founded in 2001, the SCO includes China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
