Chinese police have busted more than 100 criminal gangs suspected of selling contents of major state-level exams and equipment used in cheating in these exams, according to a statement of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on Monday.

Police have seized more than 1,500 suspects in a recent crackdown of exam-related crimes ahead of the annual national college entrance examination, which falls on Wednesday and Thursday, the statement said.

The crackdown targets those stealing and selling exam content, as well as those producing and selling exam cheating devices, so as to "rectify the environment surrounding exam venues," according to the statement.

Police have confiscated more than 60,000 exam cheating devices, it said.

An official of the MPS said that exam-related crimes have an "extremely bad" social influence and the police will maintain a high alert on such crimes.
