The government of Yulin in Northwest China's Shaanxi province will hold a public auction on June 3 for 20 luxury cars used by governmental officials and State-owned enterprises' executives.

According to Li Bo, an official from the city's vehicle control office, the cars were exhibited to the public on May 29 and 30 in the backyard of the Yulin city urban management and Law enforcement bureau. Half of the cars were SUVs.

"The price of some of the vehicles exhibited was more than 1 million yuan ($157,000), and half of the 20 cars were bought in 2011," Li said.

On May 14, several photos of luxury cars were posted online with a message saying that governmental officials and State-owned enterprises' executives in Yulin used luxury cars that exceeded standards.

The local government launched an investigation and seized 153 luxury cars used by officials and executives of State-owned enter-prises.

"The 20 cars were the first batch of vehicles to be dealt with and the other seized cars will be dealt with later. The money collected from the auction will be turned over to the government's finance depart-ment," Li said.
