Chinese police cracked 101,700 drug-related criminal cases and captured 112,400 related suspects in 2011, the National Narcotics Control Commission (NNCC) said Wednesday.

Police last year seized 7.08 tonnes of heroin and 14.32 tonnes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice," a year-on-year increase of 32.1 percent and 44.9 percent, respectively, according to an annual report on drug control released by the NNCC.

Police also confiscated 1,834.78 tonnes of chemicals used to manufacture narcotics last year, the report said.

The report said 171,000 people underwent quarantined rehabilitation in 2011, while 97,000 people were required to go to community rehabilitation centers.

The NNCC's annual drug control report has been issued since 1998.
