Moral and national education will be taught in Hong Kong's primary and secondary schools from 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years and schools will have a three- year initiation period, the city's Education Bureau announced Monday.

Secretary for the governmental department Michael Suen accepted Monday the recommendations made by the Curriculum Development Council on the refined Curriculum Guide for the Moral & National Education subject in primary and secondary schools.

It will give students a more systematic, holistic and sustainable learning experience catering to their developmental needs and cultivate their moral and national qualities through a value-based curriculum.

In addition, a one-off cash grant of 530,000 HK dollars will be provided so that schools can employ teachers, hire services or procure resources to teach the subject.
