Situated in densely populated areas around town, nine PM2.5 monitoring stations set up in various locations around town will produce data with the ability to provide a reliable overall picture of the Shanghai's conditions, local environmental protection authorities said over the weekend.

The monitoring stations meant to keep an eye on the city's PM2.5 situation, or pollution particles that are less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, will be put into operations from June.
