Erring cops punished

Sixty-two police officers were punished for misconduct committed last year, when Beijing police opened its first hotline to listen to public grievances, the municipal public security bureau announced yesterday.

The bureau told the Legal Mirror 2,757 complaints were lodged, and 63 were valid. Police did not reveal what these complaints were about.

Free cycles for planet

Environmental technology tycoon-turned-philanthropist Chen Guangbiao gave away 2,000 bicycles yesterday in his latest charity stunt, the Legal Mirror reported.

Thousands lined up at Yuetan Stadium, Xicheng district, for the free bikes. Chen, chairman of Jiangsu Huangpu Recycling Resources, said he hopes to see more people riding bikes for the sake of the planet.
