(Ecns.cn)--"It's important for candidates to display natural beauty, rather than getting plastic surgery before the exam," Wang Jinsong, deputy head of the Beijing Film Academy's Performance Institute, told the Beijing News on Sunday, the first day of preliminary auditions by the department this year.

According to Wang, students will be examined for tattoos or plastic surgery before the third round of auditions.

"Besides that, if a candidate wears too much makeup, we would ask her to take it off before the examination," he added.

During preliminary testing students are asked to read part of a poem, essay or a monologue from a movie or drama, so that they can be evaluated for their voice, image and performing skills.

After that, all students are asked to perform in group skits to show their imagination, adaptability and cooperation skills.

The Performance Institute at Beijing Film Academy has 6,185 applicants this year, 85 of whom will eventually be enrolled.
