(Ecns.cn)--Pictures of a tablet personal computer made by a student at China's Northeast Normal University have attracted wide attention from Chinese web users, receiving over 120,000 clicks in only three days, according to the Shanghai Morning Post on Wednesday.

Wei Xinlong, who is majoring in environmental art design, spent 10 days making the PC before giving it to his girlfriend Sun Shasha as a farewell gift. Wei will soon travel to Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, to look for a job while the girl will continue her studies at the university.

The top of the tablet is equipped with a built-in camera and bears an Apple logo, while the bottom has a built-in loudspeaker. Wei has also pasted decorative crystals all over the device.

"This is the coolest gift I have ever seen. Although it is not a real iPad, it was made out of love," said an online user. Wei is not a computer major, but his work has also been lauded by many computer students.

Most of the components used to make the PC were bought from a second hand market, while others were bought online. "I have liked to make things myself since I was a kid. Most of the knowledge about making the PC was learned from online sources," said Wei.

The total cost to make the PC was only about 800 yuan (US$125.9), far cheaper than an iPad. Now Sun can use it to read e-books, watch movies, play computer games and chat with Wei while he is away.

Since Sun posted the pictures online, many people have expressed interest in the PC. Wei also set up an online group to directly chat with people who are curious about it.
